What’s more dangerous, motorcycles or horses?

According to the stats, about 5000 Americans die each year in motorcycle accidents. The majorityof these accidents involve a collision with another vehicle and about one quarter involve just the motorcycle and a stationary, solid object like a tree or traffic pole. In nearly 50 percent of the fatalities, the riders were not wearing helmets, and about the same percentage had alcohol in their systems. Not surprisingly, over 90 percent of the accident victims were males.

In contrast, horse accidents kill about two Americans a year, with young females being disproportionately over-represented. Looking at the numbers, there are about 10 million horses in the country ( and of course many of these are wild horses that do not have riders) and about 7 million motorcycles. Clearly, motorcycles are more dangerous.
