As 2010 draws to a close, it’s time to take a tally of what happened in the world this year. Unfortunately, between man-made and natural disasters, it was a busy year. Swiss Re estimates that worldwide losses from disasters and catastrophes were $222 billion, more than triple the 2009 figure of $63 billion.
While Canadians were affected by these disasters, the nation was also interested in finding out more about global issues. Yahoo! Canada has released the top ten web searches for man-made and natural disasters in 2010, as follows:

4. Guatemala sinkhole
5. Hurricane Earl
6. Ontario earthquake
7. Bed bugs
8. Giant hogweed
9. Canada forest fires
10. Chile earthquake
