On Tuesday, we brought you the results of a ComPsych Corporation survey. The company found that among American HR managers polled, 31 percent said that morale and employee productivity is their biggest concern in the next sixth months.
Hazel Mitchell left a comment on this story, saying:
What ever happened about people taking responsibility and motivating themselves to ‘grow and develop’? I do not believe it should be the role of HR Managers to plan the career development of each and every staff member – this results in complacency with people who end up ‘waiting’ for the manager to progress their career for them.
I agree that recognition in the workplace is nice, although it has become expected with many staff today, to the point of when they don’t get a ‘pat on the back’, or acknowledgement, it becomes negative.
People are wanting to be recognized just for doing their job well (but isn’t that the point of working in the first place?).
We are starting to reward people just for ‘showing up’.
People should take ownership of their careers and create their own pride and high morale in the workplace.
