Online criminal record checks available for Alberta insurance licensees
Part of the application for certification as an insurance agent or adjuster in Alberta is the fulfillment of a criminal record check. The province’s Insurance Council has had this requirement in place for first-time applicants since 2004 and it may request that individuals who are applying for a general, life, accident & sickness, or adjuster certificate of authority also provide a security clearance.
Now, applicants are able to complete this step of the process online. The Alberta Insurance Council has partnered with BackCheck, an online criminal record check provider to streamline the process.
Requests for the online criminal record check can be made here, or, if preferred, applicants can still obtain a hard copy from their local police detachment.
