Insurance scam spreading through Ontario newspapers
The Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) is warning consumers of a recent insurance scam that’s spreading throughout the province via newspaper ads.
RIBO says it has already received a number of calls from people who have been caught in the scam.
Ads in several city newspapers, including those in London, Ottawa and Toronto, advertise auto insurance under the name “Security Insurance Inc.”
The ad says:

RIBO says to obtain the promised coverage, victims are directed to send money through Western Union money grams. The victim does not receive a policy and the listed phone number is out of service, leaving the victim out cash and without a policy.
