(Toronto, Ontario) The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) is proud to announce that Jim Murphy has been selected as the organization’s next Chief Executive Officer. Jim comes to IBAO from the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals (CAAMP) where he served 11,500 members as President and CEO since 2007.

“I am delighted to be joining the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario,” said Murphy. “I’m looking forward to working with the board and our engaged membership to address the pressing issues facing the insurance industry.”

Jim brings extensive experience in association leadership and advocacy to IBAO. Prior to leading CAAMP, he served as the Senior Director of Government Relations and Communications for the association. He also worked as the Director of Government Relations for the Greater Toronto Home Builders’ Association, now BILD, from 1999-2005 where he coordinated all advocacy and research efforts.

Jim’s background also includes political experience working as the Executive Assistant to the Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Tourism and the Minister of Transportation from 1997-1999. Prior to serving in this role, Jim gained valuable sector experience while serving as Senior Policy Advisor to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing from 1995-1997 in Ontario, where he joined the government after working as a Senior Policy Analyst for the Toronto Board of Trade.

“Our members have asked us to focus on three strategic pillars—advocacy, education and sustainability of the channel,” said Michael Brattman, President of IBAO. “We are very pleased to have Jim join the IBAO team. His depth of advocacy and membership association experience will help focus our efforts and deliver value to our members.”

Jim is an alumnus of the University of Waterloo where he earned an Honours Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Urban and Regional Planning degree. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in Public Policy and Public Administration from the University of Toronto.
