Great-West Life to redevelop Crown-owned property in Ottawa
The Great-West Life Assurance Company has been granted the redevelopment of Ottawa’s Lorne Building, a Crown-owned property at 90 Elgin Street.
The redevelopment will include the demolition of the existing eight-storey building, which will be replaced with a 17-storey, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold office building to be leased by the federal government for 25 years. Following the lease, the ownership will revert to the Crown.
Great-West says demolition work is set to start on June 1, with full completion and occupancy expected for late 2014.
90 Elgin Street is centrally located on an urban site surrounded by iconic and historic landmarks including the National War Monument, the National Arts Centre, the British High Commission, and the Lord Elgin Hotel.
