Narrator: According to their website, the Professional Young Insurance Brokers is an Alberta association created for young brokers by young brokers. ILSTV spoke to current PYIB President, Braden Bosch, and asked him why he thinks associations like the PYIB are important.
Braden Bosch: There are so many reasons why it’s important. It’s important because it creates an environment for young professionals in our industry to interact amongst each other and share their successes, their struggles, their ideas; and most importantly just have a voice in the industry. It’s really important for young people, the up-and-coming, to have a voice in our industry and there’s definitely that opportunity in the PYIB.
I think the public perception is just not good about insurance and the industry and I don’t think people are educated on the opportunities available in our industry either. And definitely in high school you don’t learn about insurance, so it’s just one of those things you don’t think about.
We go to high school, colleges, career fairs etc. and we just explain the opportunities available, that it’s a professional career; it’s recession proof; the aging demographic presents an opportunity to take on some challenging roles in the near future; it pays well.
There’s nothing bad to say about it. I have a bias opinion because I’m in the industry and I love it, but . . . we say everything we possibly can to encourage young people to get into our business. I don’t see why they wouldn’t want to.
