Complaints about Alberta insurance companies now handled by Superintendent

The process for Alberta residents to complain about insurance companies has changed.
As of April 1, 2011, issues, concerns or complaints about insurance companies are handled by the Office of the Superintendent of Insurance.

Any issues, concerns or complaints regarding insurance agents or licensed independent insurance adjusters will continue to be dealt with by the Alberta Insurance Council (AIC).

The AIC will also continue to deal with existing complaints opened prior to April 1, 2011 to come to a resolution of those complaints.

New complaints or enquiries received on or after April 1, 2011, by the AIC will be referred to the Superintendent of Insurance.
