Blue Bomber license plates coming to Manitoba

Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans will soon be able to sport special license plates on their cars showing their support for their team, Justice Minister Andrew Swan, minister responsible for Manitoba Public Insurance, announced.

The Blue Bombers license plate initiative, to be administered by Manitoba Public Insurance, will be implemented on a pilot basis with a limited-edition specialty plate being released prior to the start of the 2011 Canadian Football League season.

“Fans of the Blue Bombers are passionate about their football team,” said Swan.  “They have told us that they want to show support for their team by displaying a specialized license plate.  MPI will work closely with the Bombers to ensure the license plate reflects the proud history of the club and meets the needs of all partners.”

The special, limited-edition plates will be available in early June.

The Blue Bombers plate will be the second specialty plate available in the province.  In 2004, Manitoba approved the issuing of a specialty license plate to honour veterans.

Following the launch of the Bombers license plate pilot project, an evaluation will be conducted to determine the possibility of producing license plates for other community groups or organizations in the province.
