Allianz named Best Global Green Brand in Financial Services sector
In its first global report to focus on green companies, Interbrand studied public perception of environmental sustainability (“green”) brands with a demonstration of that commitment based on publically-available information and data.
Interbrand said findings show that the strongest green brands consistently differentiate themselves and engage in green activities that consumers find relevant, as well as implement profitable green practices across their organization, from setting and executing environmental programs to effectively measuring and reporting their performance to the public.
Allianz took top spot of all financial services companies studied and placed 21st overall.
Interbrand said: “Allianz is the highest-ranked financial services brand on our list. While Allianz does not lead any single pillar within the financial services sector, the company is in the top five (out of 14) companies in all performance pillars. As an insurance company, it has to take climate change seriously. Indeed, it predicts that payments for claims from extreme weather will more than double by 2019. Internally the Allianz4Good department was established in 2008 and oversees a wide variety of sustainable development activities including Allianz Climate Solutions GmbH (ACS) focused on the growing market for renewable energy, clean technology and the carbon market. Allianz offers a wide range of green products, including car insurance discounts for hybrids, driving less or using public transport, and special cover for using renewable energies or upgrading a home or property to be green. These offerings combined with investment in wind and solar energy, and internal emissions targets shows that it understands the issue.”
Allianz said its high ranking is the result of the company’s long-term commitment to green initiatives and the constant development and improvement of green solutions. Allianz Group has already developed around 70 products and services that help mitigate climate change or take its environmental impact into account. The solutions range from asset management to insurance and assistance.
The top five overall are:
- Toyota (Japan) – Automotive industry
- 3M (United States) – Diversified sectors
- Siemens (Germany) – Diversified sectors
- Johnson & Johnson (United States) – Fast moving consumer goods sector
- HP (United States) – Electronics industry
