The list of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers of 2010 has been released and Saskatchewan Government Insurance is included. The competition examines a number of diversity initiatives covering five major employee groups: women, members of visible minorities, people with disabilities, Aboriginal people and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people.
According to the report, SGI was recognized due, in part, to the fact that it has maintained an Aboriginal Advisory Network since 1993. SGI has also developed an Aboriginal recruitment strategy, which includes an employment partnership with the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies as well as the development of an in-house program to advance the careers of Aboriginal employees. As well, SGI measures managers’ success at meeting annual diversity objectives through a monthly reporting and performance appraisal process.
Of all SGI employees, 59 percent are women and 43 percent of managers are women. Five percent of employees and two percent of managers are visible minorities. The average age of all employees is 43 years.
