Private Eyes & Insurance

ILSTV did surveillance on a couple of private eyes to find out how they work with the insurance industry.

Private Eye #1: Anything that you think from watching movies and watching TV what a private investigator would do, we do, pretty well. Very seldom do we get into the criminal side. It’s mostly civil action and that sort of thing that we’re involved in.

Private Eye #2: Our major clients are insurance companies. They account for the greatest portion of our work. The way that we get these assignments is the insurance companies usually have a reason for hiring us to conduct surveillance. That could be possibly a tip or information that they’ve received anonymously from the general public. Some of them even flaunt it; the fact that they’re receiving good money from an insurance company and then working on the side as well. They may brag about it in a bar. They might tell a friend or neighbour over a bar-b-cue.  So that information gets back to the insurance companies. So when they call us, they are already suspicious, so we find that many of these, probably in the range of 40 to 50 percent, turn out to be highly exaggerated and some of them actual frauds.  There’s no subjective element of this. We look for and provide the facts.  We do not interpret them. We do not give our opinion. We simply provide them with the facts, which they, or medical professionals can review and then determine whether or not the case borders on fraud.
