Alberta sets aside $200M to pay for flood damage
The Alberta government has set aside more than $200 million to help people, businesses and local governments repair damage from heavy flooding in the south. The money will cover damage that insurance companies don’t, as well as help municipalities with emergency costs.
Registration centres opened across southern Alberta starting July 7 where people can apply for money after first checking with their insurers.
Communities across southern Alberta from Pincher Creek all the way to the Saskatchewan boundary were swamped last month when heavy rains hit the area. Damage done between June 15 and 21 is eligible for coverage. Damage done from April 13 to May 31 due to heavy snow melt in certain communities is also being covered.
